Delivery FAQ Back to Index

How to get your new merchandise. . .

Our network of delivery systems is designed to get your new merchandise to you as soon as possible, and in great shape. Our familiar white and green trucks visit thousands of cities and towns in a five-state region. So, chances are, if you drove to our store, we can deliver your purchases back to your home. If not, common carrier trucks or our friends at UPS will handle your needs. We'll pick the one that's quickest and most convenient for you. So if you need it, you got it.

There is a charge for delivery, which you pay at time of purchase. On occasion, we offer Free Delivery during certain promotions. Make sure to watch for them!

What to expect when your new furniture is delivered . . .

Where would you like this great looking piece of furniture?

• Make sure, before it arrives, that you have decided on the
spot for your new furniture and have made access to the area.
That means measuring and adjusting doorways, hallways, etc.,
if they are small, or if you are expecting overly large pieces.

• Nebraska Furniture Mart drivers will uncrate and examine
and then deliver your new furniture to your home or office and
place it where you want it. (See our furniture care section for
tips on where to place your new furniture.)

• They will also remove any packaging material and haul it away and make sure your home is in its original condition.

• Examine your new furniture before our delivery people leave to make sure it is exactly as you expected.

The following are other guidelines that Nebraska Furniture Mart drivers follow for various furniture items.

Beds and bed frames will be put together for you, including center support. Mattress and box springs will also be placed on the frame. Waterbeds will be assembled if you have paid for that service, but will not be filled. Mirrors will be attached to dressers, but not to doors or walls. For pier groups, units will be leveled and lights tested before your drivers leave. Futons do not include set up. Some bunk beds require a fee for set up. Make sure your salesperson explains in advance whether there will be a fee, and if you care to pay for set up. Your drivers may need to call dispatch from your home if there is confusion at the time of delivery.

These items will be delivered and placed where you want them. Hutches will be placed on buffets and shelves installed. Your drivers will also install any leaves to make sure they fit properly. All items will have mending plates installed, and lights plugged in and tested, as necessary.

Drivers will make sure the lamps are complete and assemble them, set in place, plug in and test.

What to expect when your new appliances are delivered . . .

You are able to take many appliances with you after you
purchase them at our store. For major appliances that you
are having delivered, keep these guidelines in mind:

Normal delivery of your major appliances includes the most basic of hook ups. Our delivery personnel will place the appliance where you want it, plug it in to existing wiring and lines, haul away old appliances if contracted in advance to do so, and haul away any packaging and shipping materials. They will also ask you if there is anything else they can do before they leave.

Generally, delivery personnel will not attempt any built-in
installations like ranges, hoods and refrigeration, nor are they
authorized for gas line hook-up without proper shut-off valves;
dishwasher hook up; running new water lines for things like
icemakers, or installation of new electrical lines. They are also
authorized to only hook up to certain lines and electrical systems (See below for specific limitations on certain appliances.)

For refrigerators and freezers, drivers will remove all doors and handles if necessary to ensure that the unit fits into your home. They will also make adjustments to door swing changes per your request.

*Please note that 4-pronged range and dryer cords are not allowed to be hooked up in the Lincoln delivery area, per local ordinance. The following are other guidelines that Nebraska Furniture Mart drivers follow for various appliances.

Refrigerators:
These items will be completely unpacked (including shelves), set in place, plugged in and leveled. Installations will not be made to plastic water lines. Dryers:
Dryers will be set in place and leveled; strapping material removed; cord properly attached and plugged in; plus plugged in and turned into ensure proper operation. Venting will be hooked up if no modifications are required on your existing venting system. For gas units, drivers will hook up the gas if there is a serviceable, existing shut-off valve directly to the dryer, and if in compliance with local ordinances. This is on local deliveries only.
At distant and remote locations, installation does not include dryer vent hook-ups.

Freezers:
Freezers will be set in place, leveled and plugged in. You should let the unit run and cool for about 24 hours before loading. Make sure you get the keys from the driver if yours is a lockable model.

Microwaves and Dishwashers:
Countertop microwave units are unpacked and set in place. Over-the-range microwave units are simply delivered, with no hook-up. For portable dishwashers, our delivery personnel will unpack the unit, set in place, install casters and start a cycle for you. In freezing conditions exist, your drivers may ask you to wait a few hours before operating your new dishwasher as the water inside could be frozen.

Ranges:
Electric ranges will be unpacked, have the cord attached and leveled. For gas ranges, they will be unpacked, set in place, have the proper cord attached, and leveled. Direct wire hook-ups will not be done. Set-up does include hooking up your range to an existing cast iron gas line (but not galvanized pipe) with a serviceable shut-off valve to the range itself. Gas line hook-ups will not be performed on copper lines or if not in compliance with local ordinances. If a gas shut-off is not serviceable or non-existent for the range itself, it is your responsibility to have a plumber or the gas company personnel make the installation. The delivery team will test operate the surface units and ovens and gas ranges.
